Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Here's an adventure movie that holds as much as being an adventure. This filmed model of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, tailored from the wildly popular ebook by J.K. Rowling, stunningly conveys to lifestyles Harry Potter's world of Hogwarts, the school for young witches and wizards. The greatest power of the film comes from its faithfulness to the novel, and this new cinematic world is stuffed with the entire details of Rowling's creativeness, because of exuberant units, elaborate costumes, artful make-up and visual impacts, and a crème de la crème solid, together with Maggie Smith, Richard Harris, Alan Rickman, and extra. Especially tremendous is the interplay between Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and hellos schoolmates Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson), as smartly as hellos protector, the looming Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane). The 2d-half adventure--involving the titular sorcerer's stone--doesn't translate perfectly from page to screen, in some way because of the movie's constancy to the novel; this can also be a case of creating a movie for the e book's fanatics, as antagonistic to a transcending movie. Writer Steve Kloves and director Chris Columbus keep the spooks in check, making this a authentic household movie, and with its inventive hero wide-eyed and prepared, one cannot wait for Harry's return. Ages 8 and up. --Doug Thomas

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
First sequels are the real test of an everlasting film franchise, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets passes with flying colors. Expanding upon the lavish sets, special impacts, and grand journey of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry's 2nd 12 months at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry involves a darker, extra malevolent story (parents with younger kids beware), starting with the petrified bodies of a few Hogwarts pupils and magical clues top Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) to a 50-year-old mystery in the monster-laden Chamber of Secrets. House elves, squealing mandrakes, massive spiders, and venomous serpents populate this loyal adaptation (by Sorcerer's Stone director Chris Columbus and revealwriter Steve Kloves), and Kenneth Branagh delightfully tops the supreme aiding forged as the vainglorious charlatan Gilderoy Lockhart (be sure to view previous the credits for a visible punchline at Lockhart's expense).
