The opening and closing seconds of Robert (Forrest Gump) Zemeckis's Contact astonish viewers with the form of breathtaking conceptual imagery one rarely sees in motion images these days--each is an expression of the heroine's lifelong quest (both spiritual and scientific) to explore the that means of human existence thru contact with extraterrestrial lifestyles. The film commences by soaring a long way out into area, then returns dizzyingly to earth until the entire superstars in the heavens condense into the flicker in a single little woman's eye. Ambitious, ambiguous, pretentious, unpredictable--Contact is the entirese factors and more. Much of it continues to be open to hypothesis and interpretation, but whatever conclusions one eventually draws, Contact deserves attractiveness as a rare piece of big-budget studio filmmaking on a non-public scale..
