A winning combination of journey, slapstick comedy, and good friendship, How to Train Your Dragon rivals Kung Fu Panda as essentially the most attractive and enjoyable film DreamWorks Animation has produced. Hiccup (voice by Jay Baruchel) is a failure as a Viking: skinny, inquisitive, and creative, he asks questions and tries out unsuccessful contraptions when he is supposed to be fighting the dragons that assault his village. His father, chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler), has pretty much given up on hellos teenage son and apprenticed him to blacksmith Gobber (Craig Ferguson). Worse, Hiccup knows the village loser hasn't a chance of provokeing Astrid (America Ferrera), the lady of his goals and a ambitious dragon fighter in her personal right. When considered one of Hiccup's innovations actually works, he hasn't the heart to kill the younger dragon he is brought down. He titles it Toothless and befriends it, even though he's been taught to fear and loathe dragons. Codirectors and cowriters Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, who made Disney's delightful Lilo and Stitch, provide loads of action, including vertiginous flying sequences, but they steadiness the pyrotechnics with moments of real heat that make the viewer root for Hiccup's success. Many DreamWorks movies get giggles from sitcom one-liners and topical popular culture references; because the humor in Dragon comes from the characters' personalities, it feels less timely and extra timeless. Toothless chases the spot of sunlight mirrored off Hiccup's hammer like an enormous cat with a laser pointer; Hiccup makes use of his newly found data (and an icky smoked eel) to defeat two small dragons--and impress the opposite kids. How to Train Your Dragon will be only as enjoyable 10 or twenty yrs from now as it is as of late.. Read more How to Train Your Dragon (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Dragon Double Pack) [Blu-ray]
